Overcast orchard maternity session
Quite a few years ago, Amy contacted me about photographing her and Chris’s backyard Cashmere wedding. As circumstances happened, I was unable to, and while we were both so bummed about it, I think we also both knew we’d be working together in the future. When clients and I instantly click, it’s a dream come true. If you’re any sort of creative, you’ll agree that connection is HUGE and that it literally makes all the difference. Heck, even if you’re not, we as humans live for this sort of community. I strive for this with all my clients, but with Chris and Amy, it just came so easy.
As a Cashmere maternity photographer, there was not way I could turn down Chris when he contacted me about surprising Amy with a maternity session in the midst of COVID. When you’re expecting a baby in a time when social distancing from the ones you love most is necessary, capturing this beautiful season in life should be deemed even more important than usual. Chris told me that they hadn’t been able to do so many things during this pregnancy that they would have done otherwise– a baby shower and more time spent with family among other things. He wanted to surprise Amy with something fun and meaningful. A little adventure and fun was so needed, I think for me and them both.
An ideal and memorable location: the family orchard.
Chris told me before hand that he’d like to take pictures in his family orchard in Cashmere, the same location of their wedding that I was unable to photograph. That itself almost brought tears to my eyes. I adore, adore, when my clients choose locations that are important to them or nostalgic in some way! It makes our sessions that much more special. That I get to document and share a little piece of their story, of their history, makes my job seem that much more worthwhile, especially as a Cashmere maternity photographer.
Keep reading to hear more of the story behind their orchard maternity session.
This specific day we chose for their session was super overcast and as you can see, the clouds opened up and sprinkled on us for a few minutes. Not a big deal though. We kept laughing and strolling through the trees.
Chris took us to a huge boulder in the center of their family orchard. He told me how he used to sit on this specific boulder for hours when he was younger and how he could see his son doing the same thing as he grew. They told me about the small house at the bottom of the orchard and how it was their first home together and the first home they renovated.
Chris & Amy took almost the exact same image in front of this vintage vehicle during their wedding. How cool that they’ll have a similar image through this season of life? Hopefully they’ll even have the same image with their children in the future!
And then this ditch. A little bit of a hike uphill but the colors were absolutely worth it!
Xoxo, Char
